Abstract

De-reconstruction of the reconstructed Au(001) surface to the 1 × 1-like structure is observed by atomic hydrogen adsorption at about 100 K. The hydrogen coverage at which the de-reconstruction occurs estimated from the TDS peak intensity is less than 0.3 ML. However, the change of the LEED spot intensities is not consistent with the TDS signal.
