Abstract

This work were initiated in order to clear the behavior of active groups in pulp and in hemicellulose extracted with dimethylsulfoxide and 4% NaOH under the various bleaching conditions. Especially, peracetic acid were discussed from the standpoint of the new bleaching agent.Among the bleaching of GP with peracetic acid, H2O2 and Na2O2, peracetic acid bleaching increased reducing group contents and reduced carboxyl group contents in pulp. It may be concluded from above results that peracetic acid were milder oxidation than H2O2 and Na2O2.After Cl-NaOH pretreatment of U·SP and U·KP, carboxyl group contents in pulp increased from 5% peracetic acid up.When hemicellulose which was extracted with dimethylsulfoxide were treated by H2O2, it seemed to change easily from carbonyl group to carboxyl group. And also, there were appreciable difference in active group contents between hemicellulose (dimethylsulfoxide method) and hemicellulose (4% NaOH).
