Abstract
This study is an experimental evaluation of the hypothesis that differences in nest positions within and outside Adelie Penguin colonies influence behavior, egg loss rates, and nest characteristics. Colony and are used in this report as defined for Adelies by Penney (1968:85): A colony is a geographically continuous group of breeding birds whose territorial boundaries are contiguous, and a rookery is a geographical area ... that contains one or more colonies.
