Abstract
When the curtains opened at the Abbey last night the stage was set with prison walls and bench, and alongside a large portrait of a strong-jawed young Irishman hung bold white lettering which spelt out the words ‘Borstal Boy’. Brendan Behan’s documentation of British prison life was having its premiere in a packed house.1
