Abstract

Tidal-current data are used to predict the presence of bed-load partings and convergences in the entrance to the White Sea and between Cape Cod and Georges Bank. The newly recognised features, analogous to the ones first defined around the British Isles, provide a rational explanation for the geographical location of sediment grades and allow predictions to be made about the geographical location of sedimentary bedform types in these regions. Further examples of bed-load partings and convergences are likely to be found in other areas not yet examined.
