Abstract

Bed and basin tillage practices are presented for wide bed cultivation under LEPA irrigation systems. Practices were selected to contain irrigation and rainfall water at the point of application for linear crop rows under a LEPA equipped center-pivot system. The grain sorghum crop was planted in two crop rows on top of 1.42 m (56 in.) wide beds. The average row spacing was 0.71 m (28 in.). Convex-topped beds and deep wide basins proved effective in confining the applied water to the area of application. A method of achieving the convex-topped beds was demonstrated during the 1992 crop season. The refinements in tillage practices helped overcome potential water application problems which can occur with LEPA irrigation techniques.
