Abstract

Oldham Primary Care Trust appointed eight community matrons this August. We are a team of registered nurses with wide-ranging skills and expertise, and knowledge from a broad variety of nursing backgrounds. Our induction involved extensive liaison with colleagues including primary care community services, acute services, council, GPs and other practice staff. Apprehension of how we would be received was totally unfounded. We have been warmly received by colleagues who are eager to work closely with us to meet the aims of the service. They share a vision to improve the health and social experiences of older people, their families and carers.
