Abstract
In the wake of the successful establishment of the Certificate in Management Studies (CMS) course, the Business Education Council has developed further post‐experience awards to meet the challenge of an accelerating rate of change in employment patterns, the working environment, and business practices and procedures. The two priority areas for the development of post‐experience provision were training for accounting technicians and for people in overseas trade. The first BEC Certificate for Accounting Technicians (CAT) courses started in January 1981, sponsored by TOPS, and the main launch is due to take place in colleges in September this year at the same time as the introduction of the Certificate in Overseas Trade (COT).
