Abstract
These four short essays contemplate different types of beauty. The first essay emphasizes the importance of creating a harmonizing, bright, and comfortable domestic interior, with the emphasis on craftsmanship as well as functionalism. The second highlights the importance of feeding the senses: of appreciating the beauty of art, literature, and music. Even the poorest members of society may not have access to original works of art, but can draw inspiration from the sights and sounds of nature. The third recommends the observation of traditional customs, especially around Christmas, New Year, Easter, and birthdays. The final essay celebrates the beauty of the hearth and the memories associated with gathering around the fireplace.
