Abstract

Organisations today need to address the multiple elements of privacy compliance as an urgent priority if they are not to fall foul of privacy legislation or disclosure obligations – and potentially suffer fines, penalties, reputational damage and loss of customer confidence. Some recent high-profile cases have drawn attention to the often competing desires for personal privacy by individuals, better-targeted product and service offerings by organisations, and access to personal information in the fight against terrorism and cybercrime by governments. Grega Vrhovec of the Information Security Forum (ISF) believes that putting a structured data privacy compliance framework in place will help organisations ensure – and demonstrate – that they are meeting data privacy obligations.
