Abstract

A number of small scale laboratory model footing tests have been carried out to measure the effect of geotextiles properties on the improvement of bearing capacity of soft clay ground. Geotextile properties include (1) tension strength of geotextile, (2) frictional force between soil and geotextile and (3) bending stiffness of the geotextile. The results of those tests emphasize the importance of the frictional force for bearing capacity and advantage of the composite geotextile.
