Abstract
The performance of a multi-flare conical horn with dielectric-core loading is investigated and is seen to have a shaped beam. The multi-flare plural mode conical horn considered here was designed for operation at K/sub u/-band frequencies and was experimentally tested with polyethylene diel-core inserted. The diel-core loading together with plural mode operation is shown to contribute to low cross-polar and sidelobe levels. The gain of the plural mode horn is enhanced by the diel-core loading. It is noted that these types of horns can be designed to have the desired aperture field illumination to contribute to higher aperture efficiency antennas for various communication applications. >
