Abstract

This paper proposes a design of an electrically tunable ferroelectric lens for the millimeter wavelength range. Results of finite element method simulation at 50 GHz show that a reduction of the feed antenna 3dB beamwidth from 60° to 11° can be achieved. Additionally, the proposed design allows electrical beam scanning in discrete steps in the range of ±15°' In comparison to a dielectric lens antenna system, this is obtained using only a single feed antenna and without mechanical displacement of lens or feeder.
