Abstract

Measurements have been made of the energy displacements given to a coasting proton bunch in the cyclotron by r.f. buckets accelerated past the orbital frequency of the protons. The results are in agreement with theoretical predictions, and illustrate a limitation to the circulating current which can be built up in a beam-stacking accelerator.
