Abstract

We have developed a new beam intensity monitor based on the gas scintillation emitted from helium gas molecules in a gas-filled recoil ion separator. The emission spectrum from the gas scintillation was measured using a monochromator over a wavelength range of 380–750nm. The emission strength as a function of the beam intensity was measured using a wavelength filter passing through the peak at 389nm. The emission strength was correlated as a function of the beam intensity within an intensity range of 0.006–0.68pμA.
