Abstract

This paper introduces beam deflection capabilities of a microstrip patch antenna using a nonplanar broadside coupled split-ring resonator (BCSRR). The two rings of BCSRR are printed on both sides of the FR4 substrate and are placed precisely on top of the antenna to obtain the desired results. Simulation analysis results are provided of the effects of variations of the structure. By using the coupling effects of the BCSRR, the changes in the bandwidth, gain, and radiation patterns are noted. A comparative analysis of the antenna with and without BCSRR placement has been carried out. The sensitivity of beam deflection to the BCSRR arrangement will be demonstrated in this paper.
