Abstract

This chapter studies the conceptual and physical spaces specific to viewing film and video screens configured as sculptural installations. It recovers the critical subtlety of screen-based artworks that activate spectatorial doubleness, which states that the space separating subject and screen must be forgotten but also maintained. The works reviewed in this chapter explore the nature of mediated vision by asking the viewers to be simultaneously present in the real gallery space and the virtual screen space.
