Abstract

Abstract The continuum dislocation-based model is applied to cyclic deformation of thin constrained crystalline strips. The simulated size effect upon loading as well as the size-dependent Bauschinger effect upon unloading are caused by the line tension of the curved dislocations that bow out between the impenetrable edges of the strip.
