Abstract

In contrast to the planning process concerning new libraries, the integration of some existing smaller collections especially in connection with a revised usage of already existing buildings needs to take into account some additional aspects. The existing building often requires a compromise between functional needs and possible chances for realization. Also the space has to be oriented more at the still existing collections than at theoretical concepts, which will not simplify the whole planning process. The different steps of such a planning process are described using the branch library for theology and philosophy of the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich as an example.
