Abstract

A study of 50 prose poems Baudelaire wrote between 1857 and his death in 1867 and collected posthumously under the title Le Spleen de Paris, translated as Parisian Prowler. The author sees them as a coherent ensemble of fables of modern life that unite lyricism and critical self-awareness.
