Abstract

Modification of a low-cost mini-compressor, powered by a battery, permits construction of a durable, low-cost vacuum filtration system for use with suspended sediments in the field or laboratory. Components are readily available, and the use of a gel cell precludes hazards generally associated with acid batteries. Although the writers have found the apparatus described in this paper to function well, the University of Akron, its agents, and employees make no warranty, expressed or implied, relative to the procedures described herein.
