Abstract

This paper present species records and inferable habitat preferences of a total of 35 bat species in 25 genera that were captured during three separate studies on the Potaro Plateau, western Guyana. One,Carollia castanea, is a new country record. Reproductive data is presented for seven species. Measurements and habitat data given forPlatyrrhinus aurarius, a little-known species. The composition of the Potaro Plateau bat community is contextualized by comparison with 13 other sites in the north-east South America. A map shows all known bat collection localites in Guyana, for which a gazetteer provides supporting information.
