Abstract

Various competent commercial resins with nitrogen functionalized groups are effective for Au(III) adsorption from aqueous media. Among them, the uptake behavior of Dowex Marathon MSA from synthetic electroless plating (ELP) solution was studied. Batch adsorption studies were conducted for variation in pH (2.5–10), adsorbent dosage (0.2–2 g L−1), contact time (5–840 min), and initial Au(III) concentration (50–300 mg L−1). The Dowex Marathon MSA exhibited a maximum Au(IIII) uptake capacity of 73.53 mg g−1. The determined batch adsorption characteristics were targeted for their fitness with appropriate equilibrium and kinetic models. It was found that the adsorption of Au(III) by Dowex Marathon MSA followed the Freundlich equilibrium model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model.
