Abstract

The complexes C 5H 5CO(η 2-CH 2S)PMe 3 (III) and C 5H 5CO(η 2-CH 2Se)PMe 3 (IV) are prepared from C 5H 5Co(CO)PMe 3, CH 2X 2 (X = Br, I) and NaSH or NaSeH, presumably via [C 5H 5CoCH 2X(PMe 3X] as an intermediate. Reactions of III and IV with MeI/NH 4PF 6 give the compounds [C 5H 5CO(η 2-CH 2ECH 3)PMe 3]PF 6 (V, E = S; VI, E = Se). V reacts with CF 3CO 2H (in the presence of NaI) by CoCH 2 bond cleavage to yield [C 5H 5Co(SMe 2)(PMe 3)I]PF 6 (VII). The synthesis of C 5H 5CO[η 2-OC(OMe) 2]PMe 3, the first complex containing a dihapto-bonded carbonic acid ester, is also discussed.
