Abstract
Basin tillage is a soil and water conservation practice that increases surface depression storage of precipitation, thereby potentially reducing storm runoff and increasing soil water storage and availability to crops. In this short review, we discuss the historical development of basin tillage, describe different types of equipment used for constructing the basins, and discuss the application of the practice to production of dryland and irrigated crops.
