Abstract

1. The pKα values for aliphatic amines in ethanol correlate with the total of the induction constants of the substituents. The correlation parameters depend on the number of NH linkages in the amines. 2. Ethanol has a lower capability for differentiating the basicity of amines with the same number of NH linkages compared with water, nitromethane, and acetonitrile. Nevertheless, the latter, to a smaller extent than ethanol, differentiate the basicity of secondary and tertiary amines.
