Abstract

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has stated that routine screening and treatment of subclinical hypothyroidism cannot be recommended. Yet, after reviewing the same literature, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the American Thyroid Association, and the Endocrine Society recommend routine screening and treatment for these women. Our objective is to review the basic science and clinical evidence supporting (or refuting) for treatment of pregnant women with subclinical disease.
