Abstract

A BASIC program has been written to enter, edit and analyse minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) antimicrobial susceptibility results for large numbers of organisms and a wide variety of antimicrobials. The outputs of the program include a text file listing the numbers, percentages, cumulative numbers and cumulative percentages of organisms inhibited at different concentrations. The range, MIC for 50% and 90% of organisms (MIC 50 and MIC 90 respectively), and the geometric mean MIC of the antimicrobials are also summarized in a table which is written to another text file. The distribution of MICs is additionally displayed as a conventional histogram which may be saved to a file. The program has been compiled for rapid execution in XT or AT compatible microcomputers and thousands of MIC values can be analysed in seconds.
