Abstract

Experiments on luminescence and lasing were used in a study of the population inversion kinetics in high-pressure lasers pumped by an electron beam and utilizing the 3p–3s transitions of neon. The optimal active-medium compositions were established and explained qualitatively for a wide range of specific excitation powers. The special features and advantages of using different quenching agents were identified.
