Abstract

Basic mechanical concepts and mathematical techniques in application to three-dimensional crack problems are considered. The effect of static and cyclic loads and nonuniform temperature fields on a solid is examined. Basic crack theory calculation models are characterized in detail. The models derived from the basic ones are also reviewed. The general methods of the three-dimensional crack problems solution are discussed. Besides, some approximate methods successfully applied in engineering practice are described.
