Abstract
Current limiting impedance of a transformer type superconducting fault current limiters (SCFCL) is decided by the inductance of the primary coil. And the current limiting performance deeply depends on an inductance and a resistive component at the normal state of the secondary coil. In order to have better current limiting performance, the SCFCL would have smaller inductance, and at the same time, larger resistance of the secondary coil for a proper limiting impedance (that is, reactance of the primary coil). Therefore, we propose a new configuration of the transformer type SCFCL having rewound structure. This SCFCL consisted of two rewound coils using BSCCO wire and it can be made in low inductance and high resistance of the secondary coil. The model SCFCL having rewound structure was designed and made and the basic experiments were carried out in order to investigate the fundamental characteristics.
