Abstract

As a new compensator of the end effect of linear induction motor (LIM), the authors propose a magnet rotator located at the front of the primary core of the LIM. To study the effect of the magnet rotator, finite element analysis is used in an equivalent two-dimensional model. The paper shows that the proposed method can compensate the end effect of LIM designed for urban transit. For an LIM designed with small end effect at small slip, the thrust of the LIM increases by 45% with the magnet rotator, which is equal to that for an LIM without end effect.
