Abstract

Control of power flow between parallel paths in an AC network requires the regulated injection of a series voltage. Chubu Electric Power Company (CEPCO) foresees a need for a smooth, fast, and repetitive control of power flow along CEPCO's parallel transmission paths. A power flow controller based on rotary phase-shifting transformers may offer an attractive alternative approach to conventional phase-shifting transformers or power electronic devices. This paper describes the basic characteristics of a rotary power flow controller and a potential application on the CEPCO system.
