Abstract

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounted for over 31,000 new cases of cancer and led to approximately 12,000 deaths in the United States in 2001.1Nearly one-third of RCC cases present with metastatic disease and approximately 30% of those treated for localized disease eventually relapse.2Renal cell carcinoma occurs twice as often in men and most commonly occurs during the fifth through seventh decades of life, but has been reported in younger patients.2
