Abstract

In this paper the author presents a 3D inversion interpretation of gravity data for determining the basement structure of the Bac Bo basin in the Gulf of Tonkin. The basement depth is determined by 3D Parker inversion of residual gravity anomaly in which 3D inversion solution is constrained by power density spectrum of gravity and magnetic anomaly. The fault systems are determined by the maximum horizontal gradient of gravity data. A structural basement map is constructed from the interpretation results. The deepest basement of the Bac Bo basin is 8.2 km in the depocenter. It consists of NE-SW, W-E, NW-SE and N-S fault systems. The NE-SW and E-W faults are the main fault systems in the basin. They constrained the depressions and uplifts of the basins. The N-S fault system is young. It may not constrain the basement.
