Abstract

A new model of the laminar, hypersonic base flow region of slender bodies is suggested. It is found that for Re^, L < 10 an inviscid core cannot exist in the recirculation region, and for jR^, L < 10 this region is Stokes-like. The base height is introduced as an important characteristic length in the problem, and a Reynolds number variation of the base pressure ratio is derived. Excellent agreement with experimental base pressure data at moderate Reynolds number is obtained.
