Abstract

Background: Early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is associated with improved survival. However, a greater proportion of patients treated at Safety Net Hospitals (SNH) present with later stage disease than patients treated at Academic Medical Centers (AMC). The aim of this study is to identify barriers to diagnosis and treatment of HCC at an earlier stage, specifically highlighting the difference between SNHs and tertiary/quaternary AMCs.
