Abstract

Abstract Barley stripe mosaic virus was found occurring naturally in barley plants growing at the Palmerston North Substation of Crop Research Division, DSIR, and in commercial barley crops in the Manawatu and Hawke's Bay. This virus was transferred experimentally to produce symptoms in barley, oats, wheat, maize, and some species of Chenopodiaceae. The identity of the virus was confirmed by its host range, serology, electron miscroscopy, and sedimentation coefficient.
