Abstract
Improvements have been made in the TRW barium ion beam magnetic and space potential diagnostic1 to increase the signal-to-noise ratio which have made measurements in the STM hydrogen plasma possible. These improvements include larger solid angle collection optics, higher delivered laser power, and higher ion-beam densities. The improvements have been more than sufficient to allow measurements of plasma parameters under any desired operating conditions of the STM device. Measurements of plasma diamagnetism, space potential, and potential fluctuations have been made under various ECRH plasma conditions. Diamagnetism β of 14% with stored energy of 13.4 J have been observed under ‘‘ring’’ conditions. Under ‘‘disk’’ conditions and similar stored energy diamagnetism over 80% of the plasma diameter has been observed peaking at ΔB=150 G out of 2000 G at r=0. This work was supported by U. S.
