Abstract

In this paper a metamaterial electromagnetic (EM) wave absorber with unit cell composed of four circular metallic plates is reported, which can absorbing EM energy at terahertz (THz) frequency with enhanced bandwidth. By properly designing the size of the four plates, the relative bandwidth is increased to 41.3% due to the multi-resonance effect. The performance of the absorber is demonstrated by full-wave simulation and experimentally verified by reflection measurement with a THz time-domain spectroscopy. The measurement also indicates the designed THz absorber is polarization insensitive and works with wide incidence angles.
