Abstract

The absorption spectrum of the 40°0-00°0 band of N2O has been recorded in the pressure range 10–15 atm. From the recorded profile, the experimental correlation function can be determined. It is compared with the theoretical one, expressed on the basis of either a free-rotor model, or an improved one which includes the effect of collisions. This comparison leads to introduce, in the collisional term involving the linewidths Γ (m) , a temporal factor Ω, (t), in order to account for the actually observed correlation function.
