Abstract

A previous model of electrostatic charging of polymers by intermittent metal contact is extended to band bending situations. The model describes charging relevant to three different spatial regions: the contacting metal; the boundary layer of the polymer with surface states having an average energetic position E s; and the adjacent polymer bulk with bulk states having an average energetic position E b. Both E s and E b undergo band bending which is different for the time of contact and the time of interruption between contacts.
