Abstract
En este artículo se ofrece un panorama comparativo del establecimiento y las trayectorias de los bancos extranjeros (británicos, franceses, alemanes y españoles) en los mercados financieros tempranos de diversos países latinoamericanos desde 1863 hasta 1914. Se describen y comparan sus modelos de organización y algunas de sus estrategias para expandir sus negocios. Se argumenta que el modelo de banca multinacional moderna fue precedido por experimentos históricos bastante diversos que deben conocerse mejor.
