Abstract

Lama dei Peligni is a village of the Abruzzo (province of Chieti) that has undergone several economic and socio-cultural transformations. In the following work, after brief considerations of a general nature concerning the relationship between nutrition and geography and between nutrition and rituality, are examined at first: the economic-geographical framework of the survey site and the main characteristics of local agronomic biodiversity. Later we consider the ritual foods of everyday life, of the cycle of life and of religious festivals used in the past and in current events, emphasizing the contribution they make to the formation of the cultural identity of the place.
