Abstract

AbstractBaMgF4 and Ba2Mg3F10 were synthesized by sintering stoichiometric mixtures of the binary fluorides and characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. BaMgF4 crystallizes with the orthorhombic BaZnF4 structure type in space group Cmc21 (no. 36), a = 4.126(1) Å, b = 14.518(4) Å, c = 5.821(2) Å, V = 348.7(2) Å3, Z = 4. Ba2Mg3F10 crystallizes with the monoclinic Ba2Ni3F10 structure type in space group C2/m (no. 12), a = 18.495(2) Å, b = 5.9497(9) Å, c = 7.8187(9) Å, β = 112.04(1)°, V = 797.5(2) Å3, Z = 4. The structural relationships to their hydride analogues BaMgH4 and Ba2Mg3H10 are discussed.
