Abstract

Molecular MicrobiologyVolume 97, Issue 4 p. i-i Front CoverFree Access BamA proteins are required for the folding and insertion of β-barrel containing integral outer membrane proteins (OMPs). Despite their wide conservation, BamA orthologs function in a speciesspecific manner. Genetic studies of hybrid BamA proteins demonstrates that defects in hybrids containing orthologous POTRA domains can be rescued by compensatory mutations within the β-barrel domain (highlighted residues).
