Abstract

We study ballistic charge transport through a narrow channel connecting two compressible quantum Hall liquids at even denominator filling fractions $\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{\sim}1/2p.$ We find that due to the Coulomb coupling to gapless bulk charge excitations, the current shot noise in the channel exhibits detectable deviations from, yet remains close to, the prediction of the phenomenological model of an impurity embedded into a Luttinger liquid with the Luttinger parameter equal to the filling factor $\ensuremath{\nu}.$
