Abstract

Canadian-based Ballard Power Systems has collaborated with Nisshinbo Holdings in Japan to develop a Non Precious Metal Catalyst (NPMC) for use in a commercial NPMC-based, proton-exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell product. Ballard plans to launch a new 30 W FCgen®-1040 fuel cell stack product incorporating the NPMC in late 2017, the first commercial application of a non-platinum catalyst in a PEM fuel cell electrode.
