Abstract

Balint group in continuing education for medical professionals developrent is a well-established family medicine residencies training in many country and active worldwide. This training program consists of a small group of physicians who meet regularly to examine their own physician-patient relationships. In Balint groups, physicians are trained to implement basic psychodynamic principles with special attention to the physician-patient relationship. The aim is to improve physicians' skills in handling their patients while simultaneously controlling their personal involvement and awareness of their own feelings during patient encounters. Balint groups may provide such opportunities for physicians with strategies for handling their work life, continual professional development might be an approach for avoiding burnout.
