Abstract

The energy efficiency of WSN is important to determine whether a WSN can be widely and reliably deployed and applied. The fundamental problem is to lessen the energy consumption produced by the communication modules of WSN nodes. This paper analyzes and solves the problem from the perspective of how to design efficient data aggregation method. It aims to reduce the data quantity to be collected through data compression and improve the efficiency of data aggregation through optimizing the transmission mechanism. After deep analysis of the internal relationship between network coding and compressed sensing, and based on the relevance in WSN nodes' sensing data, and based on the broadcast nature of wireless transmission, this paper proposes a new data aggregation method for WSN with high energy efficiency, Balanced Compressed Network Coding (BCNC). Simulations are carried out for BCNC method and currently representative Collection Tree Protocol (CTP) and Finite Field based Random Linear Network Coding (FFRL-NC) data transmission method. The result of simulation verifies that BCNC is significantly superior in terms of energy efficiency of data collection.
